Endodontic Retreatment

For most patients, root canal treatment will allow them to save their teeth for many years. However, in some instances, a tooth can become reinfected after root canal treatment. Sometimes this infection can happen months or years after the original treatment.

Reinfection can occur for a number of reasons, including:

• A new cavity on a tooth
• Microbial leakage through an existing filling or crown
• Extra canals inside a tooth
• Debris not removed during the first root canal treatment

Root canal treatment involves removing the previous filling material inside your tooth and disinfecting the pulp canals. The canals are sealed and a restoration is placed.
